Rediscovering the kid in you and Japan Japan

Couponing websites will be the death of my credit card (not to mention itunes) I have had many charges but have yet to use them but so far, majority of my purchases have been fantastic.

I availed of the Yoshinoya 50% off on Metrodeal and purchased 6 coupons. Little did I know that the coupons were about to expire in 5 days.

My Yoshinoya love started even before I went to Japan, going to Japan sealed it even further. You see the beef in Yoshinoya is so tender that it can literally melt in your mouth (the way I remembered it since I stopped eating beef a year and a half ago). When I went to japan, contrary to the fast food look locally, the Yoshinoya’s there look like hole in the wall shops with bar stools – it looks like your typical canteen but cleaner. I had Yoshinoya for breakfast almost every single day. It was that good. The rice alone was superb.
Anyway, since the GCs were expiring, we had to use them while it was still the weekend. We headed to Robinson’s Galleria with my family and ordered a lot of bento boxes.

Halfway through the meal, I remembered that I had to buy pressed powder since I ran out. I was getting ready to head to L’Oreal until my mom reminded me that L’Oreal did not suit my skin and my grandmother chimed in that Shiseido would be a better brand.

While the Shiseido lines in Robinson’s Department Store were not complete, it was just enough to keep my search interesting. Surprisingly, my mom had her face made up by Clarice, the ever helpful sales associate who kindly assisted me in my search. I ended up purchasing a UV Protection Cream and a Sheer Matifying Compact. Hopefully I will not have an adverse reaction and have my face break out. After spending more than 30 mins in the beauty department the next stop was believe it or not- Toy’s R Us where we spent more than 2 hours in.

When I was a kid, I always looked forward to going to Toy stores and arcades to discover the latest toy. And there I filled my mind with child like wonder all the new toys that were available for kids these days. One thing is for sure – kids these days have a lot to choose from. Back in the days, my top of mind were Baby dolls, Barbie, Lego and Duplo. Now they have Barbie and Friends, Sylvanian, Baby Alive, to mention a few. Lego has also evolved from the days I used to play with it. It now has action figures and collectibles. My brother purchased Iron Man from the Avengers Lego Collectible. When we saw the Toys R Us sale outside, my brother and aunt panicked. They saw Cogo blocks (Lego imitation I assume) and went nuts. These big Cogo sets (Fire station, Army, Pirate and Castles) were at 70% off and down to Php 500 and Php 300 only. They each grabbed three boxes of Cogos. When I saw that it was a great bargain, I went around looking for my great bargain. I wanted in on the action too. I found these Disney baby toys that were on sale – super bargain really. Imagine a Disney nightlight from Php 1,200 down to Php 250? I had to buy one. I would always know someone pregnant anyway. I ended up purchasing a nightlight, 2 baby highchair toys and a lunchbox. All for a steal at Php 620. It was really fun to rediscover the kid in us.

We ended the night enjoying the most basic and best kiddie treat of all – ice cream! Yoshinoya, servesthe best green tea ice cream J and my all time favourite Japanese snack – takuyaki!

KRIS KRINGLE: Something Big

I never thought it would be hard to find something BIG for Php 100 pesos ($2) I short listed the following for my fashionable friend: ...a big box of tissue (useful) ...a big toblerone (but this is WAY over budget) ...a big trash bin ...a case of big oatmeal cookies (last resort) ...a big mirror ...a big bookmark (which i couldn't find anywhere) ...a BIG beer (unrelated) ...a big organizer it's quite difficult really. But I must search for something else. PRESSURE! On a side note, Jamie treated us to Pizza Hut's Lechon pizza. After eating, I felt like I would pass out at any moment due to high cholesterol but it was quite tasty if you're a fan of Lechon (roasted pig). The pizza did taste a bit like Mang Tomas' lechon sauce. A big slice of Pizza hut's lechon pizza

Around Manila: Exploring the streets of J.P. Rizal in Marikina

It is funny how we know the history and culture of a land we do not live in yet know so little about where we live. Thus, began our mission to explore Manila, one city at a time. DESTINATION: Marikina Starting Time: 11am End Time: 5pm How to get to J.P. Rizal in Marikina - Waze (app) and Google Maps Marikeno (native people in Marikina) are said to be the most disciplined people in the Philippines. If the cleanliness around Marikina were a testament to that, Marikenos would pass with flying colors. The streets I could say were similar to those in Singapore - free from litter and we saw people from households cleaning their own front area even if it were facing a street. SHOE CAPITAL of the Philippines Marikina produces 70% of the shoes in the country. and holds the World's Largest Pair of Shoes, recognized by the Guinness World Records. In Marikina, you can find the Shoe Museum which houses 800 out of the 3000 shoes that were part of the famous shoe collection of the
