30 Seconds to Mars: Closer to the EDGE!

There were two major concerts happening this week and the second to the last one is 30 seconds to Mars. I really really REALLY wanted to go but I had no ticket.

At 5pm, as I was still busy discussing plans for a despedida party, Noj with a sad face, was patiently waiting for me to finish. With a sad face, he handed me a gold ticket to 30 seconds to mars. WTF? Is this serious? He said he couldn't go, so if he couldn't then I should go. And then it happened, the moment when everything starts to move so fast- it seems like a blur. the next thing I know. I had an extra gold ticket with 2 meet and greet passes! WTF!

I didn't bother shutting down my laptop, I just closed it and half ran/walked to the MRT station. Thank goodness the place was not packed and I was able to take the first train!

All along, I was texting Jen and we wanted to meet and go to the venue at the same time. The whole trip was full of energy, I was really really excited, well, it was also my first meet and greet.

After I met up with Jen, we decided to go to the venue together. The rain greeted us with a smile, lashing out full force at our thin umbrellas. Jen decided to buy an umbrella at a bookstore and so we braved the rain to wait for our other companion's Fred and Paul, just inside the gates-rain and all.

When we entered Mindanao Open Parking the place was not packed, in fact there were only about 150 people standing in the rain with raincoats and umbrellas. Deep inside I was thinking, is this the official crowd? 9pm came and went and still nothing, there was a front act, Kwan but I didn't know them so I didn't bother. By 9:40PM, there were more people, some in raincoats, some opted to jump in the rain without umbrellas nor raincoats. When the people in the gold section were waiting, they all carried umbrellas but when the concert was about to start, they folded their umbrellas because it was time to rock on.

We were all drenched and cold but when Jared came out, everybody rushed to the front and started screaming! He was so close. Less than 10 feet away!

Jared was a crowd pleaser. He made sure than people enjoyed the whole show
1. They released giant red balloons with confetti.
2. He said "ikaw na" referring to the crowd staying even in the pouring rain
3. He directed the cameraman and the crowd in coordination with his song
4. He invited people from the gold section to come up the stage and sing with him - three times!
5. He sang in the rain to accompany everyone in the rain
6. He asked fans what song he should sing next

I felt like a kid again, jumping in the rain in my platform flip flops, raising my fist in the air, waving my arms to the music and singing my heart out. I was so pumped-up, ecstatic and elated.
Everything felt so surreal.

And finally the moment we were all waiting for, the meet and greet. Our names were checked and we were assigned group numbers. Initially, each group was divided into groups of four but it became five and then finally 10. The rules were pretty simple. NO TOUCHING, NO AUTOGRAPH SIGNING, NO TAKING OF EXTRA PICTURES EXCEPT FOR THE OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHER. Pretty simple right? EXCEPT there was a girl in our group who even after hearing the rules, asked Jared to sign her meet and greet. PASAWAY! Jen and I were both standing beside Director Joyce Bernal and the photographer said they could not see us anymore so I hurriedly went to the front to pose near Jared. When Jared came in, he skin was literally glowing! He looked so handsome! But I only had 5 seconds to meet him just two feet away.

Jen and I were so happy walking in the rain.

The best part is the aftermath, with stupid grins plastered on our faces, we walked away from Mindanao Open parking exchanging smiles with people drenched from the rain with the same grin on their faces. Only those who watched the concert can feel the same intensity, the same rush, all for the love of 30 Seconds to Mars.

P.S. As fate would have it, I was wearing flip flops to work which I seldom do.
P.S.S. While we were waiting for the meet and greet with the band, we overheard them saying that Incubus had breakfast with 30 Seconds to Mars this morning and they had noodles.

With a happy heart,

KRIS KRINGLE: Something Big

I never thought it would be hard to find something BIG for Php 100 pesos ($2) I short listed the following for my fashionable friend: ...a big box of tissue (useful) ...a big toblerone (but this is WAY over budget) ...a big trash bin ...a case of big oatmeal cookies (last resort) ...a big mirror ...a big bookmark (which i couldn't find anywhere) ...a BIG beer (unrelated) ...a big organizer it's quite difficult really. But I must search for something else. PRESSURE! On a side note, Jamie treated us to Pizza Hut's Lechon pizza. After eating, I felt like I would pass out at any moment due to high cholesterol but it was quite tasty if you're a fan of Lechon (roasted pig). The pizza did taste a bit like Mang Tomas' lechon sauce. A big slice of Pizza hut's lechon pizza

Around Manila: Exploring the streets of J.P. Rizal in Marikina

It is funny how we know the history and culture of a land we do not live in yet know so little about where we live. Thus, began our mission to explore Manila, one city at a time. DESTINATION: Marikina Starting Time: 11am End Time: 5pm How to get to J.P. Rizal in Marikina - Waze (app) and Google Maps Marikeno (native people in Marikina) are said to be the most disciplined people in the Philippines. If the cleanliness around Marikina were a testament to that, Marikenos would pass with flying colors. The streets I could say were similar to those in Singapore - free from litter and we saw people from households cleaning their own front area even if it were facing a street. SHOE CAPITAL of the Philippines Marikina produces 70% of the shoes in the country. and holds the World's Largest Pair of Shoes, recognized by the Guinness World Records. In Marikina, you can find the Shoe Museum which houses 800 out of the 3000 shoes that were part of the famous shoe collection of the
