Long weekends don’t come very often so when it does comes up, everyone will try to maximize the longer vacation time. My officemates initially planned to hike in Mt. Pinatubo but with a past hiking experience in Mt. Manalmon and Taal, I decided to pass the opportunity. I told them I will join them if they're going to Subic, the Gods answered my prayers when they changed to Subic instead. Yey!
SUBIC HERE WE COME!!!
As the Itinerary planner, I decided on Zoobic and Tree Top Adventure Park. Tree top in the morning since it closes at 4pm and Zoobic in the afternoon. We’re all set!
The attractions in Tree Top Adventure Park looked harmless and fun in the pictures. Little did I know what I signed up for. What I thought was harmless fun turned out to be spine chilling.
This is the Tree Drop attraction. You’re strapped at the waist and then you’re dropped to the ground. Sounds simple right? But letting go of the ledge is actually the hardest part. I think I spent more than 5 minutes on the ledge initially letting go of a leg but putting them back on the ledge. The fear of dangling in mid-air with nothing but ropes to save my life plus a 70 foot drop had my blood rushing to my head.
I did stay in the ledge for quite some time. The operators were convincing me to go down but I wasn’t swayed by their words.
Finally the rope started to burn my skin. I was starting to feel more and more uncomfortable. At one point, I gave up on my fear and just let go. Letting go was so exhilarating. Finally, I was dangling in mid-air! They slowly lowered the rope while singing a song meant for the dead. Suddenly they let go of the rope and I was falling to the ground. I let out a loud shriek. Just as I neared the ground, I was pulled back by the ropes around my waist.
I got down still shaking but extremely proud of myself. I, who once had a fear of heights, is no longer afraid!
After Tree Drop the other rides were not as exciting anymore or maybe I’m just too proud and happy to care.
