Crazy December: 24

December 24 started a little woozy, you see at one point last night, my fever reached 39.2 and my body hurt everywhere! I was really contemplating on cancelling the bridal shower for my cousin because
1. I may not feel well enough to host the shower
2. If ever I do host the shower with a slight fever, I may infect my cousin with fever and she had a flight to catch on Dec 26

Decisions, decisions.

But thankfully, come morning, the fever was gone - viral fever only!

I quickly got dressed and had breakfast with my mom at our favorite Chinese restaurant, Kim Po. Feeling a bit better, I decided to prepare for the bridal shower which was scheduled at 3PM. We finished breakfast, congee, and headed to Trinoma and prayed that I can hopefully find everything that I need.

OKAY. I got this covered.

I was a bit nervous, being December 24th and all, I was quite afraid of the Christmas rush.

We arrived at the mall at 10AM and we actually waited outside the door before the mall opened and we some of the few customers who arrived early. Whew!

Fast forward to four hours later, I had 3 bags in tow. I completer my checklist of things to buy, along with my mom's checklist. We got:

PRIZES for the bridal shower:
1. storage boxes
2. notebooks
3. hand gels
4. pens
5. Bridal shower giveaway - sparkling phone strap

Gifts for my cousin
A new top for me too. hahaha - my first shopping in a long time

Halfway through my search, I did feel a bit woozy but decided that I should not move fast and bend down to look at things to prevent it from happening again.

We also manage to squeeze lunch in. We had a quick meal at Toast Box where I ordered Chicken Sandwich - big mistake - I don't feel the urge to consume anything - probably an effect of yesterday's fever.

Come 3:00PM I was back at my cousin's house. The place was decorated beautifully! I couldn't have asked for anything more. There were Japanese umbrellas suspended in the ceiling as well as star lanterns. The table was decorated with flowers. The leis were a bit short but nonetheless perfect for the BEACH theme. And we had more than enough sarongs for everyone.

By 3:30PM, we received a call from my Uncle - plan gone bad - he took my cousin to Forever 21 and a two hours later, asked her to come home. She put up a fight, she was not yet done looking. I can understand, Forever 21 is about a thousand square meters of clothes after all. Tried calling her up to calm her a bit but to no avail.

Finally I saw them come home from the glass entrance way and I rushed everybody into their positions. Surprise!

Oh, did I mention that her sister told me 30 minutes before that my cousin hates surprises.

OMG! Hate surprises+temper = dead meat ( I think I could feel my fever rising again) I was at wits end.

When she saw the surprise, she was shocked! Well, DUH! ahhahaha but she took it a bit well, we gave her five minutes to freshen up because she was crying!

When she came down, I took my role as the HOSTESS of the Bridal Shower and tried to get everyone comfortable. First ice breaker game - 2 Truths and 1 Lie - everyone had fun thinking about the truths and lies they were going to say. Halfway down the game, we had a surprise! My aunt just came back from fetching my cousin's friend whom she hasn't seen in years! She let out a loud shriek when she saw her friend. Another check mark!

Since the cast was complete, I decided to introduce the next game. With toilet paper, masking tape and staplers in tow, the next game will be DRESS THE BRIDE!

I divided the group into three - one person will be the designer and the other, the bride. Twenty minutes later, they each had their own masterpiece, Monique Lhuillier, move over!

I made my aunt and the maid help me in deciding who should win. And the winner is....

Next up is charades! The criteria was all chick flicks so it was easier for them to guess.

After the game, we had a little snack and proceeded to open the gifts. Needless to say, they were all negligees! One sexy negligees after the next!

It was so much fun to see my cousin enjoy her day. It was nearing 6PM so I wanted to give my cousin time to bond with her friend plus the fact that I wasn't feeling well suddenly so I went home. Tired but happy :)

TIPS FOR HOSTING A BRIDAL SHOWER:
1. Theme - everything should center around the theme
2. Get everyone involved - there are a lot of details to take care of - food, decor, logistics, prizes, games (stuff needed for games), giveaways, invites etc
3. Central point person for everything - everything has to be cleared with the host to make sure that there are no sudden surprises!
4. Have fun!

Crazy beautiful,
D

KRIS KRINGLE: Something Big

I never thought it would be hard to find something BIG for Php 100 pesos ($2) I short listed the following for my fashionable friend: ...a big box of tissue (useful) ...a big toblerone (but this is WAY over budget) ...a big trash bin ...a case of big oatmeal cookies (last resort) ...a big mirror ...a big bookmark (which i couldn't find anywhere) ...a BIG beer (unrelated) ...a big organizer it's quite difficult really. But I must search for something else. PRESSURE! On a side note, Jamie treated us to Pizza Hut's Lechon pizza. After eating, I felt like I would pass out at any moment due to high cholesterol but it was quite tasty if you're a fan of Lechon (roasted pig). The pizza did taste a bit like Mang Tomas' lechon sauce. A big slice of Pizza hut's lechon pizza

Around Manila: Exploring the streets of J.P. Rizal in Marikina

It is funny how we know the history and culture of a land we do not live in yet know so little about where we live. Thus, began our mission to explore Manila, one city at a time. DESTINATION: Marikina Starting Time: 11am End Time: 5pm How to get to J.P. Rizal in Marikina - Waze (app) and Google Maps Marikeno (native people in Marikina) are said to be the most disciplined people in the Philippines. If the cleanliness around Marikina were a testament to that, Marikenos would pass with flying colors. The streets I could say were similar to those in Singapore - free from litter and we saw people from households cleaning their own front area even if it were facing a street. SHOE CAPITAL of the Philippines Marikina produces 70% of the shoes in the country. and holds the World's Largest Pair of Shoes, recognized by the Guinness World Records. In Marikina, you can find the Shoe Museum which houses 800 out of the 3000 shoes that were part of the famous shoe collection of the
