I realized a lot of things over the weekend.
First, amongst us three, my brother has been hit the hardest or is more emotionally wrecked than my mom or me. Our doctor shared that guys, unlike girls, are compartmentalized when they think. They compartmentalized their work, family, fun, health and wellness and romance separately and for my brother, all these have been damaged in a span of a couple of months. Our doctor was in the same position as my brother when his Dad passed away when he was just 27.
a. Work - from the happy go lucky, easy going boy he used to be, playing playstation in our office. He now has to manage our business and the employees and he has the responsibility of the household expenditures. Yes, my mom is there, but suddenly, the weight is upon his shoulders.
b. Family - he just lost his dad and he found out a couple of days after. He now stands as the only male in the family and his free time is limited.
c. Fun, Health and Wellness - He had dengue while my dad was sick and on the road to recovery, he has to give up drinking alcohol, resorting to drinking fruit bevs when he is out on Saturday nights with friends, he cannot go hungry else his body will start to feel week and he will start shaking. He can't lift heavy stuff - he used to exercise daily, now he put it on hold.
d. Romance - His girlfriend broke up with him a week before my dad passed away or when she/they found out my dad had cancer.
Second, there's upside and downside when doing business with friends - upside: deadlines are extendable downside: how to say no means no and yes means yes
Third, it's amazing how good food can make one's day superbly happy. After the morning session with Dr. Mike, I felt how my brother felt and wanted to cheer him up somehow. So I treated my mom and brother to lunch. Normally lunch would mean a meat dish with rice but this time, I let him indulge by ordering another meat dish so he can stuff himself full, bottomless iced tea and mango sago dessert. Amazing how he way so happy after lunch which carried out to the afternoon.
Fourth, silly is funny. No matter how silly the plot is, it atually becomes entertaining after a while. I was watching Playful Kiss (Taiwanese: It Started With A Kiss) at home and the remarks and situation were quite silly but I found myself laughing my *** off. Then again, it could be that I'm mababaw.
Fifth, always go with your first choice. From choice one, I went with choice two until I reached five only to go back to the first choice. Lesson learned? Trust your instincts.
Sixth, it's quite easy to adapt. I never imagined that I would be driving at the speed of 50 until amonth ago where I drove at 50. This morning, I reached 70 - oh yeah, the cars in EDSA tells you to go faster so no other choice not to.
Seventh, travel in your own country by: 1. Exploring new restaurants, 2. take tourist luxuries such as taking a cab from Greenbelt to SM Makati, and spend as if tomorrow s your flight out 3. go to parks, zoos, and famous eating places. If all else fails, there's always ensogo, metrodeal and dealgrocer to rely for cheap fix.
Finally, never under estimate the purchasing power of Filipinos! Ever since Forever 21 opened in Makati, I have been going there every other day. Not a week goes by that I do not step into the retail giant and get lost in a sea of stripes, florals and ruffles. From what I've learned, Forever 21 reshuffles their clothing every other day or sometimes everyday. What you'll see in this rack will be moved to the next rack the following day or the day after. And if you really really like it, buy it! Sometimes when I need to budget, I hesitate to buy what I want until I discover 2-3 days later that it's sold out. Don't lose hope though, you can check online but there's shipping cost to contend with. Sorry if I'm rambling about shopping. So either items disappear in a blink (retail therapy unite) or they have limited items.
