Winter in Korea: Eventful Day Three

November 28, 2010

I had too much fun this morning.

We got home at around 6:30AM at least that is what they told me. And by the time I got to my hotel room, I just went to sleep, boots, jacket and all. I couldn't muster the energy to wake up and remove them since I was quite woozy and not thinking straight. The next thing I know, I woke up with a start, glanced to my right for the time and saw that it was already 9AM.

OMG.

I'm so late. I was tempted to wear the clothes from the night before but it smelled of smoke and beer so I called my friend first. She woke up a few minutes before I did and was able to change into fresh clothes but sans bath and all. I told her to leave me behind and I will just follow wherever they will go. But the cheapskate in me refused to give up so I quickly changed the outfit from the night before into fresh clothes and went down. Sadly, the bus had left already ten minutes earlier.

I panicked for a few seconds but managed to calm myself and have breakfast. What I feared the most is that I was the only one who didn't wake up, had I known that there were others who didn't make it, I would've stayed behind.

After having pecan pie, I went up, got the blue paper which has all the contact details of the travel agency and called the Korean travel agency. Good Lord, they don't know english and I don't know Korean. After attempting to get the operator to understand me while saying, "tour", s", "schedule" but still to no avail, I finally said the magic word " Lisa, tour guide" and voila! hearing "oooooh, Lisa city tour" my next words were "where?" Somehow she got the point that I was left behind and asked me where she can contact me. I gave her my hotel and room number. I quickly went up and within a few minutes I got a call from Lisa, our tour guide. She told us that they will be done by 10:40Am in the amethyst factory and the drive to the factory is about 20 minutes which leaves me about 20 minutes to take a bath, change into fresh clothes and somehow speak to the driver.

I made it just in the nick of time. It was like a scene from the movie, the taxi stopped by on the sidewalk and then I saw a bus pulling up behind us, I got off the cab and entered the bus. Mission accomplished after spending 14,000 won and the rush, I was quite ready to sit down.

This is Lisa, our tour guide who can speak Thai as well.

Since my eyes were quite puffy, it's not a good day to pose for pictures without looking like I'm asleep in all of them.

Myung Dong for shopping. I swear that Myung Dong is the best place for shopping compared to Dongdaemun because it has a mixture of foreign brands as well as local brands, a great one stop destination. You can get easily lost though. They have H&M, Forever 21, Zara, Uniqlo etc.

Gotta love snowflakes
What's for dinner? Ginseng Chicken. Like arroz caldo here.

Ji Hoo of Boys over Flowers in a store ad.

After dinner we headed to Ramada hotel to meet up with our friends. Then went to a nearby stall to hang out.

The rice in this dish is yummy. Couldn't say the same for the meat. It was filled with bones. X_X

Needless to say, I don't want another repeat of this morning's episode so we went home earlier.

KRIS KRINGLE: Something Big

I never thought it would be hard to find something BIG for Php 100 pesos ($2) I short listed the following for my fashionable friend: ...a big box of tissue (useful) ...a big toblerone (but this is WAY over budget) ...a big trash bin ...a case of big oatmeal cookies (last resort) ...a big mirror ...a big bookmark (which i couldn't find anywhere) ...a BIG beer (unrelated) ...a big organizer it's quite difficult really. But I must search for something else. PRESSURE! On a side note, Jamie treated us to Pizza Hut's Lechon pizza. After eating, I felt like I would pass out at any moment due to high cholesterol but it was quite tasty if you're a fan of Lechon (roasted pig). The pizza did taste a bit like Mang Tomas' lechon sauce. A big slice of Pizza hut's lechon pizza

Around Manila: Exploring the streets of J.P. Rizal in Marikina

It is funny how we know the history and culture of a land we do not live in yet know so little about where we live. Thus, began our mission to explore Manila, one city at a time. DESTINATION: Marikina Starting Time: 11am End Time: 5pm How to get to J.P. Rizal in Marikina - Waze (app) and Google Maps Marikeno (native people in Marikina) are said to be the most disciplined people in the Philippines. If the cleanliness around Marikina were a testament to that, Marikenos would pass with flying colors. The streets I could say were similar to those in Singapore - free from litter and we saw people from households cleaning their own front area even if it were facing a street. SHOE CAPITAL of the Philippines Marikina produces 70% of the shoes in the country. and holds the World's Largest Pair of Shoes, recognized by the Guinness World Records. In Marikina, you can find the Shoe Museum which houses 800 out of the 3000 shoes that were part of the famous shoe collection of the
