Happy Halloween Happy Feet Style!

This year, the company decided to have a design your work area contest once again. While we were out, there was an email blast appointing me and Donna as representatives for the team. Anyway, initially the team decided on Glee, but since the kids wouldn't know anything about Glee, they changed it to Madagascar. When we came back, somehow I manage to persuade (well actually she was also thinking of doing Happy Feet before I came in) my boss to change it to Happy Feet. We discussed it with the whole team and they agreed. Yehey! Somehow I couldn't work on Madagascar because I couldn't picture it in my mind!

But we were all so busy, we didn't have the time to actually set-up the place. Other groups were already starting but we were still far from designing process.

This is what the place looked like on Thursday (one day before the Halloween Party) 9:30pm
Left cloth is shower curtain, rock wall is made from crumpled newspaper covered in white japanese paper, mountain scenery is made from blue cellophane and white styrofoam

At 11pm, some of us were trying out the costumes made from black and clear trash bag, recycled paper and Happy Feet face print out.

A little bit of progress. I did start a bit on the floors. I was inspired by the bubble wrap.
New addition: floor is made from bubble wrap underneath the bubble wrap are shredded recycled paper, rocks are made from crumpled newspaper wrapped in 2 layers of Japanese paper.

Well, the journey was quite long. We did overtime for this but I think it turned out superbly.
Floor: bubble wrap, clear trash bag and shredded recycled paper underneath
Rocks: crumpled newspaper wrapped in 2 layers of Japanese paper
Rock Wall: crumpled newspaper covered in white japanese paper
mountain scenery: blue cellophane, christmas lights and white styrofoam
work area: covered with white/light colored bed sheets and curtain
front draping: blue cellophane, clear trash bag (2 layers), christmas plastic beads
to end it all, shredded recycled paper for snow

for effect, blue lights installed in two strategic places. actually not strategic but it worked out well.

Last minute addition: penguin made from AXN drop box, 2 large trash bags, white towel, scarf and trash can
Blue lights and trick or treating kids

At the end of the trick or treat, we were dead tired. The whole place did look really cold too.

And some of us had to go back to working with blue lights as light!

After going to a lot of workspaces, this pair of penguin feet has seen more than enough.

Well at least it was all worth it. We bagged the first prize! Php 5,000!!!

And the Managing Director said that one of the judges mentioned as he was leaving our area that we were the obvious winner. Yahoo!

KRIS KRINGLE: Something Big

I never thought it would be hard to find something BIG for Php 100 pesos ($2) I short listed the following for my fashionable friend: ...a big box of tissue (useful) ...a big toblerone (but this is WAY over budget) ...a big trash bin ...a case of big oatmeal cookies (last resort) ...a big mirror ...a big bookmark (which i couldn't find anywhere) ...a BIG beer (unrelated) ...a big organizer it's quite difficult really. But I must search for something else. PRESSURE! On a side note, Jamie treated us to Pizza Hut's Lechon pizza. After eating, I felt like I would pass out at any moment due to high cholesterol but it was quite tasty if you're a fan of Lechon (roasted pig). The pizza did taste a bit like Mang Tomas' lechon sauce. A big slice of Pizza hut's lechon pizza

Around Manila: Exploring the streets of J.P. Rizal in Marikina

It is funny how we know the history and culture of a land we do not live in yet know so little about where we live. Thus, began our mission to explore Manila, one city at a time. DESTINATION: Marikina Starting Time: 11am End Time: 5pm How to get to J.P. Rizal in Marikina - Waze (app) and Google Maps Marikeno (native people in Marikina) are said to be the most disciplined people in the Philippines. If the cleanliness around Marikina were a testament to that, Marikenos would pass with flying colors. The streets I could say were similar to those in Singapore - free from litter and we saw people from households cleaning their own front area even if it were facing a street. SHOE CAPITAL of the Philippines Marikina produces 70% of the shoes in the country. and holds the World's Largest Pair of Shoes, recognized by the Guinness World Records. In Marikina, you can find the Shoe Museum which houses 800 out of the 3000 shoes that were part of the famous shoe collection of the
